Rotarians Darragh Parsons and Nancy Cox-Godfrey went off to South Africa and Zimbabwe to enjoy a 3-week vacation and also to help and observe some Rotary Projects.
Their main project was helping with an Eyeglass project in Hout Bay, Cape Town. They not only helped for a day at a local high school but also brought used glasses from Bracebridge Family Eyecare (Dr. David Cox), that will be used in the community for adults and children who cannot afford eyeglasses. They also took in a meeting with the Rotary Club of Stellenbosch and the Rotary Club of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. In Victoria Falls they observed a Sewing, Basket weaving, Embroidery and Jewelry making facility in a rural area outside the city. The facility was built by the Rotary Club and they hire individuals to teach and create items to sell in the local stores. The proceeds go back into creating reusable sanitary products for the Period Poverty project. These products are also sewn in the facility and help young women continue to go to school or work without the downtime from monthly menstrual cycles.
Darragh and Nancy also got to see the Big 5 in Kruger National Park and had a lunch visit with past member Oliver Reprich!
